New term, new look for Thamesmead

thamesmead-decorating.jpgStudents at Thamesmead School have returned from the summer holidays to a newly decorated resource centre thanks to the efforts of a 13-strong team of volunteers from The Royal Bank of Scotland.

Thamesmead School's well-equipped resource centre, which houses IT and library facilities has been in need of redecorating to give it a new lease of life.

The end of the summer holiday was an ideal time for the week-long job to take place in order that the new-look room could be completed in readiness for the start of the autumn term.

Graham Chaston, Relationship Manager from the Commercial Banking team in Heathrow has a good relationship with the school and has worked with its Business Manager, Viv Samuels for a year or so.

Acknowledging the school's desire to enhance the resource centre, Graham worked alongside his colleagues at the Heathrow-based Commercial Banking team to establish how they might be able to assist.

The team was keen to undertake the project with many staff volunteering themselves for the week-long project, involving removing numerous stapled pictures to make way for the complete redecoration works, which included painting steel girders, window frames and walls.

The Bank's Corporate and Social Responsibility scheme further facilitated the project by putting funds in place to enable the purchase and hire of materials such as sanders, scaffolding, paint brushes and paint.

Peter Rodin, Head Teacher, Thamesmead School said: "I am extremely grateful to the local RBS team for their fantastic efforts. The resource centre looks marvellous, it's amazing what a week of hard work and a lick of fresh paint can achieve. I would like to thank everybody for their commitment to this project."

We'd like to hear from you.
