AFTER seeing a cyclist injured in a smash with a car, a fence flattened and a wall knocked down all in one journey, a councillor has warned drivers to be careful over the Christmas period.

On her way to Kingston last week, Staines County Councillor Denise Turner-Stewart saw the cyclist hurt in Hampton Court Way, East Molesey, just minutes after seeing the mangled fence in Hurst Road, Walton and a wall turned to rubble in Walton Bridge Road, Shepperton.

Littleton C of E Infant School, has signed up to a groundbreaking new cycling initiative it hopes will tackle the growing issue of child obesity.

One of the first in the country to join forces with Cycle Solutions, the school hopes the Bikes4School initiative will also make money which will help invest in a better future.

Street-savvy youths from Spelthorne signed a petition pledging not to carry knives and presented it to Spelthorne MP, David Wilshire, at the House of Commons last week.

More than 5,000 young people signed the petition, 'Knives Wreck Lives' - organised by the Spelthorne Youth Council - which launched on October 27 and presented their pledges to their local MP on Tuesday, December 9.

Revenue and Customs officers arrested three men, including one from Shepperton, over a suspected VAT fraud involving in excess of £25 million of VAT repayments and on suspicion of money laundering in relation to the proceeds of the crime.

The arrests took place in Teddington, Frimley, New Malden, with raids carried out in Bagshot, Farnham, New Malden, Shepperton, Sutton, Teddington, Frimley and Kettering. All those arrested have been taken to custody areas for questioning by Revenue and Customs investigators.

A rogue pirate flag boater caught flouting mooring regulations on the River Thames at Desborough Island in Shepperton in the summer was back at the same spot again last week.

We caught the boat - which has no name - at the island in July after it had been moored there for nearly a week, in a clear breach of the 24 hours maximum rule.

Burglars broke into a house in Glebeland Gardens, Shepperton, by smashing a panel of glass in a rear patio door on Saturday December 6 between 1.45pm and 2.30pm but got away with nothing.

Police have been carrying out house to house enquiries in the area and are keen to speak to witnesses.

Spelthorne Council is set to spend £100,000 on valuation and condition surveys of all the land and buildings it owns.

Approximately £70,000-80,000 has been earmarked by council officers for the condition survey to help decide what work needs doing and between £20,000-30,000 has been set aside to ascertain the rental value of council properties.

Planners look set to issue an enforcement notice against land owners in Charlton Road, Shepperton after officers found a caravan was being used for unauthorised purposes.

A decision will be made on Wednesday December 10 at the Spelthorne Council planning meeting.

Halliford Folk Dancers meet on Wednesday (November 10) at Shepperton Village Hall in the High Street, from 10am-12noon.

Admission costs £1.50, which includes coffee.

Residents have accused road chiefs and the police of underplaying the danger on a road they say has been the scene of 14 crashes in six years.

Householders in Walton Bridge Road in Shepperton are demanding measures to slow down traffic following the latest accident in October when a car smashed into the garden of Malcolm Atkin.

They say 10 years ago the street was the scene of a fatal motorbike accident and want action taken before someone is killed. However, Surrey Police say they don't have a record of it because the area was under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police at the time.
