Rotary coffers boosted by Christmas collections

Not even the small matter of the global economic crisis could stop kind-hearted folk donating in droves to Shepperton's two rotary clubs, with presidents reporting a record £10,000 given over the festive period.

The clubs, Shepperton Aurora Rotary Club and Shepperton Rotary Club, made their traditional collections accompanied by Santa and his sleigh, traipsing the streets of Shepperton and paying visits to Tesco in Sunbury and Notcutts garden centre in Laleham.

Joe Delahunty, president of the Shepperton Aurora Rotary Club, said: "We are all aware the current economic slowdown is being felt by families in the area, so their kindness in donating more than ever before to our annual collections in very touching."

Eric Painter, president of Shepperton Rotary Club, said: "All the money raised in our Christmas collections is distributed througout the year to good causes, and many local charities will benefit this year from the generosity of local people."

We'd like to hear from you.
