Boot sales rumpus continues

Posted by Adam Courtney on Sep 18, 09 03:58 PM in

Fresh complaints have been raised by residents over the conduct of a Shepperton car boot sale organiser, this time over the erection of "eyesore" barriers outside the site.

A war of words between the two parties has been brewing over the past few months, with residents unhappy David Smith, of Thames Car Boot Sales, is continuing to go ahead with a series of 14 sales at The Ranges, despite their ferocious opposition.

Earlier this month, Mr Smith claimed opposition was so strong residents had taken to sabotaging his scheme, which has about another month to run, by claiming rubbish had been deliberately dumped at the site, the entrance gates had been glued shut and asbestos planted there.

Now, Mr Smith has tried to alleviate the problem by putting orange barriers by the gate but his latest move has angered neighbours further.

One, who didn't want to be named, said: "These eyesores have been imposed by David Smith on Sheppertonians and visitors to our lovely old village every day for the past three weeks.

"I hope to find time to contact the council to see if these awful barriers can be removed, and some sort of enforcement notice served upon the land owner.

"It's laughable he is accusing residents of fly tipping to sabotage him - rubbish dumping has been going on there for about 35 years."

We'd like to hear from you.
