Scouts from the 1st Shepperton group were clowning around last week as they completed the final part of their circus skills activity badge.

On Tuesday, February 2, professional clown Mr McDonut was invited down to the scout hut in Glebeland Gardens to give advice and instruction on juggling, spinning plates and using diablo sticks.

Mr McDonut was also on hand to help the scouts dress authentically and paint their faces to make them look like true clowns.

Bikers visited a residential home on Sunday December 6 dressed as Father Christmas to give out presents.

More than 20 members of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Club visited The Bradbury Centre, in Manygate Lane, in Shepperton, dressed as Santa, Batman and Robin, and Gnomes.

Seventeen girls dressed in their pyjamas to raise money for Children in Need in Shepperton.

The members of 2nd Shepperton Guides held a teddy bears picnic at their weekly meeting on Friday November 20 and raised £170 for the BBC's appeal.

AN INNOVATIVE Spelthorne-based charity has received a grant of £10,000 from Heart Research UK in order to run its 'Fit from Fifty' campaign.

Age Concern Spelthorne started the project to demonstrate to men over 50 how nutrition and exercise can play a role in reducing the risk of heart disease through a series of weekly classes and advice from sports, fitness and health care professionals.

The Probus Club is looking for men over 60, who are retired or semi-retired professionals, to join their get togethers on the first Tuesday of every month at Harrison's, formerly The Ship, in Russell Road.

Each meeting, which can include speakers, music and any number of activities, includes a three-course lunch. Call 01932 241 724 for more information.

The Spelthorne Natural History Society is conducting a litter pick on Thursday, April 16 from Splash Meadow to Nutty Lane, meeting at the far end of Old Charlton Lane at 9am.

Spelthorne Civic Pride Volunteers will turn their attention on Sunday, April 5 to Funky Footprints nature reserve in School Lane, Shepperton.

From 10am they will be cutting willows and Goats Rue.

The next meeting of the Sunbury and Shepperton Local History Society takes place on Tuesday, February 24, at Halliford School, Russell Road, Shepperton, at 8pm.

Matthew Piggott will give a talk about searching for family history.

Spelthorne Natural History Society will visit The Ranges in Docket Eddy Lane, Shepperton, on Sunday, February 22 from 10am to make baskets from dry willow.

Egham and Staines Conservation Volunteers will be cutting canes on Sunday, February 22, from the cane plantation at The Ranges, Shepperton, at 10am.

Canes supplied from the plantation are used by craftsmen across the region and volunteers will need to bring wellies and secateurs if they have them.
