Hope for Brooklands

A TUMULTUOUS few days has ended with hope for thousands of Brooklands students after their new principal revealed he is formulating plans to save the college from closure.

On Saturday, parents, teachers and students, apparently with little optimism, rallied at the Ashford campus, and on Monday there was a protest outside Spelthorne Council headquarters ahead of a scheduled cabinet meeting to discuss the future development of the the seemingly doomed site.

Schoolchildren from all over the borough visited Spelthorne Council's offices on Friday November 13.

Pupils from ten primary schools, including Saxon Primary School, in Briar Road, Shepperton, and Our Lady of the Rosary, in Park Avenue, Staines, visited as part of the Junior Citizenship event, which saw each school deliver a presentation on what sporting activities they would like to see provided in the borough.

ECO-FRIENDLY children at St Nicholas School in Shepperton traipsed the streets on a litter pick last week.

Teacher Rosie Tothill took the youngters on a walk around Manor Farm Avenue and nearby streets including Lois Driver and Old Charlton Road.

Children at St Nicholas Church of England Primary School in Shepperton have launched a project that aims to raise awareness of the destruction of rainforests.

The project, being inspired by the Prince's Rainforest Project for schools, will see year 6 children complete a series of tasks by November to alert the community to the mass destruction of forests around the globe.

Littleton C of E Infant School, has signed up to a groundbreaking new cycling initiative it hopes will tackle the growing issue of child obesity.

One of the first in the country to join forces with Cycle Solutions, the school hopes the Bikes4School initiative will also make money which will help invest in a better future.
